| Harmful birth control Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella merit a defective drugs lawsuit |
Women's birth control pills are designed to prevent pregnancy and, in some cases, combat acne, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). What they should not do is harm a woman. Yet defective oral contraceptive drugs Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella are known to do just that, leading to heart attacks, strokes and even death.Yaz and Yasmin are produced by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Inc., while Ocella is a generic brand of a comparable drug. Each features DRSP, or drospirenone, and that's the problem. DRSP may boost the body's potassium levels, which can cause serious ailments for women with kidney (renal) disease or cardiovascular conditions. The drug also can severely affect the heart. Indeed, DRSP can play a role in a woman having high blood pressure, blood clots, strokes or heart attacks. Other risks from this drug are vision problems, breast lumps, depression, confusion, migraines, numbness and pulmonary embolism. Yasmin, Yaz, Ocella linked to heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressureAmong women's oral contraceptives, only Yaz, Yasmin and Ocella have DRSP. That makes these drugs targets for potential defective drugs lawsuits. A Yasmin lawyer or defective drugs attorney can fight for victims' rights to financial compensation for their losses. Such setbacks may include lost wages, rising medical bills, and pain and suffering. Such legal action is mandated even more by the fact that Bayer knowingly marketed Yaz and Yasmin in deceptive ways. Bayer overstated the efficacy of Yasmin and Yaz in its TV commercials, suggesting that, besides preventing pregnancy, such drugs could combat mild acne and PMS. Bayer also failed in its ads to mention potentially serious side effects, including those named above, as well as gall bladder disease. The FDA complained to Bayer, as did the attorneys general of 27 states, and Bayer then ran $20 million worth of TV ads to repudiate its false claims. Symptoms, warning signs for Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella include headaches, numbnessWomen who have taken such drugs are advised to heed these warning signs of potential symptoms: fainting, sudden dizziness, slurred speech, confusion, severe headaches, sudden shortness of breath, weakness or tingling or numbness in the legs or arms, weakness on one side of the body, coughing up blood, vision problems, pain in the chest or jaw or left arm, or pain, warmth or swelling in the calf or groin. Young women normally have a very low risk for heart attacks or strokes. Sadly, due to defective drugs Yasmin, Yaz and Ocella, that risk increases greatly. If you or a loved one has suffered due to such defective drugs, alert a Yaz lawyer or defective drugs lawyer at Jim S. Adler & Associates and launch the process of getting help. You may be entitled to significant financial compensation from a defective drug manufacturer whose negligence caused you harm.
