But such dreams can turn into nightmares if the road on which you are driving is defective. In fact, defective roads are one of the major causes of traffic accidents.

Defective roads can be hazardous

Defective roads can cause much harm to you and your family. Today it could be you, and the next day it could be your spouse, your children, your friend or someone you know. If you or one of them becomes a victim of defective road negligence, you or they can sue those responsible for defective road construction and improper maintenance.

Filing a lawsuit for compensation not only might help you, but it could make the responsible persons or groups pay heed to better road construction in the future, thus making roads safer for other drivers. This can be possible if a victim files a lawsuit with the help of a defective road lawyer at Jim S. Adler & Associates. Such a lawyer is well aware of legal matters related to defective roads and can collect the evidence needed to prove fault on the part of construction companies.

Many factors cause defective road accidents

Accidents from defective roads can be life-threatening, and often they’re caused by defective road designs. A number of things can be called a defective road design. The road must be constructed obeying laws of physical science so that nothing awkward happens and causes an accident. Yet defective roads often represent poor planning, with too-tight turns, unrealistic curves and missing or unclear road signs, such as those which should alert drivers about speed limits, speed breakers, sharp turns, schools and other elements, yet fail to do so.

Such defective roads and road conditions often can lead to an accident. And in such accidents, motorcyclists are more vulnerable than cars or trucks, because motorcycle riders are far more exposed and can lose control more easily on defective roads. A pothole may not be a big obstacle for an SUV or a truck at high speeds, but a motorcycle rider might be thrown off the vehicle by such potholes, leading to serious injuries or even death.

Defective roads cause a sixth of vehicle accidents

Defective road accident statistics shows that every year more than 15% of vehicle accidents, or about one-sixth, are due to defective roads. Yet many victims might fail to secure their deserved rights and compensation because they filed a lawsuit independently or with lawyers who were not experienced in laws concerning defective roads.

In such cases the injured parties might not properly hold accountable the companies responsible for their accident. On the other hand, a defective road lawyer with Jim S. Adler & Associates can effectively seek financial compensation from the proper sources.

Full road closure may reduce work zone accidents

A report released by the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) in August 2003 explores the pros and cons of closing roads under construction rather than allowing traffic to travel through the work zone. “Full Road Closure for Work Zone Operations: A Cross-Cutting Study” aimed to find a way to reduce congestion and risk of accidents by simply diverting traffic around the work zone. “Transportation agencies are challenged to balance the increasing need for work zones with mobility and safety concerns expressed by the public and government agencies,” the report stated. “Full road closure is one method that transportation agencies are giving increased consideration to during project planning and design, as a potential way to balance these conflicting needs.”

TxDOT report investigates work zone crashes

A Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) report, released October 2004, investigates the reasons behind the high incident rates of work zone accidents in Texas. Since at least 1994, Texas has consistently had the highest number of work zone accidents in the country. Even by population-adjusted stats, Texas had twice as many fatalities in construction zones as New York, and six times as many as Ohio.

An Analysis Of Fatal Work Zone Crashes In Texas studied 77 fatal work zone crash sites throughout Texas from February 2003 through April 2004. The purpose was to determine the variables that caused the accidents, and tried to determine what TxDOT could do to improve traffic safety around work zones.
