JIM S. ADLER SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
“I’m for kids.” |
Jim Adler, a personal injury lawyer for 30 years and a member of Houston’s Joint City/County Commission on Children, established his law firm’s summer internship program in 2008 to give high school students from inner-city neighborhoods the opportunity to work in a professional environment.
“I’m not in it to train lawyers,” Adler says. “I’m in it to broaden kids’ horizons.”
“We need to provide opportunities for these future leaders early in life, during their formative years, so they learn that doors are open at the highest levels and that hard work will take them a long way,” says Jim Adler.
Adler’s position on the Children’s Commission, his internship for high school students and other extensive activities on behalf of children, reflect his dedication to advancing their causes.
“National statistics show that America is losing its competitive edge to other countries. I hope my internship motivates businesses all over this state to bring kids into the world of professional work and inspire them to reach for the top,” Adler says.
It’s a practical wish: “A network of these internships across Texas, if not the nation, portends a better future for us all,” says the Texas Hammer.
