Easter Shopping - The House of Tiny Treasures

March 31, 2009

It was a great day for 32 homeless children in Houston when Attorney Jim Adler took them on a shopping spree for new clothes just in time for Easter. The little ones were from The House of Tiny Treasures, a therapeutic daycare for young children who were exposed to drug addiction, alcoholism, hunger and violence on the streets. SEARCH Homeless Services created the House of Tiny Treasures in 1992 to help children overcome such experiences while parents who have left the streets receive counseling and job training.

Jack Yates High School - Spurs Program

It’s long way from the classroom to college for some high school students, especially students in low-income neighborhoods who dream of academic success.

Jim Adler has provided a shortcut. This event at Jack Yates High School in Houston in October 2007, highlights the Texas Hammer’s donation that is putting these kids on the road to success in college.

It pays to link them via computers directly to a professor at the University of Texas in Austin who is teaching them to write papers at the college level before they graduate from high school. The program is a partnership between the Houston Independent School District and UT Austin that Jim Adler is underwriting for Yates.

But you could call it “The Adler Advantage.”

The program that Jim Adler is underwriting is a first for an inner city high school in Houston. It’s just another way that this tough, smart lawyer is standing up for kids in Texas.

Shriners Hospital - Mardi Gras Party February 2007

Shriners Patients Star in Mardi Gras Parade

Orthopedic patients celebrated Fat Tuesday parading through Houston’s Shriners Hospital for Children, as nurses and staff threw beads and trinkets their way. Noted Houston attorney Jim Adler helped push patients in their wheelchairs until they arrived to Shriners Hospital’s physical therapy department for Mardi Gras treats, including the traditional Mardi Gras King Cake.

The Office of Jim Adler and Associates sponsored the Mardi Gras celebration by providing festive beads, masks, crowns and decorations. Adler and his associates brightened the day by providing a festive atmosphere and much-needed encouragement to patients.
“Our patients enjoyed taking a break to dress up and celebrate Mardi Gras with the Office of Jim Adler and Associates,” said Marja Sealy, child life director at Shriners Hospital in Houston. “They made the parade extra special and hosted a cheerful party afterwards.”

Houston’s Shriners Hospital for Children offers free medical care to children with orthopedic conditions that affect the bones, muscles and joints. Many of Houston's finest doctors with premier private practices and university affiliations volunteer their services to help young patients at Shriners Hospital. The care provided at Shriners Hospital is the same level of care provided by doctors in private practice-the only difference is it's free.
