ATTORNEY

Langdon ‘Trey’ Smith

As senior trial attorney for Jim Adler & Associates, Langdon “Trey” Smith stays busy, and he likes it that way.

Handling all aspects of trial and appeal, the litigation lawyer has worked on injury cases involving 18-wheeler, auto, aviation and oil field accidents, as well as product defects, general liability and premises liability, such as drownings or slip and falls.

Trey enjoys helping people solve their legal problems and guide them through a difficult time in difficult circumstances. He believes his perseverance, diligence and tenacity set him apart as a lawyer, along with his experience.

Trey has tried dozens of cases to verdict in his 20-year law career, and believes only a small fraction of injury attorneys in Texas can say that. Having so much trial experience enables him to find solutions to problems which perhaps other attorneys cannot.

He also appreciates that Jim Adler provides ample financial support when preparing a case for trial.

Thriving in Adversity

Though his father was a lawyer, Trey did not choose that course until graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor’s degree in economics. But now he thrives in the adversarial nature of his work.

He welcomes the challenge of having someone on the other side who is working for opposite goals. Trey enjoys overcoming obstacles and the eternal fight.

Born in Cuero in South Texas, Trey moved to Austin in sixth grade and remained there through undergraduate school. He then attended South Texas College of Law in Houston, where he was first in his class for his first two years.

In his third year in law school, Trey received a “third year bar card” which allowed him to try his first personal injury trial while he was still a student.

Assistant managing editor of the South Texas Law Review, Trey received many awards in law school for academic excellence and achievement, and was named to the Dean’s List several times. After graduating cum laude in 1996, he launched his law career with his own firm in Houston, then joined Jim Adler & Associates in 2008.

Trey is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas.

He and his wife have two teen children, and in his precious spare time he enjoys going to their kids’ sporting events and spending other time with his family.
