Salmonella food poisoning outbreak is costing America more than peanuts

by Bruce Westbrook

The latest atrocities reported from the front lines of America’s salmonella food poisoning battle indicate that the responsible company, Peanut Corporation of America, shipped products to consumers even prior to learning results of lab tests which would reveal salmonella.

Peanut Corp. reportedly found salmonella in its own testing, then “lab shopped” to try to find a lab which would provide a favorable report. Meanwhile, it shipped tainted peanut products to consumers in various states. Many persons have been stricken with salmonella in Minnesota, California, Michigan, Ohio, Massachusetts and Virginia. Still more cases have arisen in Florida, Arizona, North Dakota, Texas, Idaho and New Hampshire.

The New York Times reports that Stewart Parnell, an owner of Peanut Corp., once emailed its Blakely, Ga. plant to complain that the salmonella problems were “costing us huge $$$” by delaying shipments and invoices. Call him bottom-line Parnell — if not bottom-feeder.

Well, Parnell hasn’t seen anything yet when it comes to costing “huge $$$.” Not only has Peanut Corp.’s Blakely plant been shut down by federal authorities, but so has its Plainview, TX plant, which also had unhealthy conditions producing salmonella, a vicious bacterium which assails the digestive system.

Too, Peanut Corp.’s legal problems include what is now a criminal investigation, given the fact that it knowingly supplied contaminated products to consumers. So far, at least eight deaths and hundreds of illnesses have been reported, which seems a high price to pay for one company’s impatience over making money off products ruined by its own negligence.

This negligence has led to the biggest recall of food products in American history, as even many capable and conscientious manufacturers suffer for having purchased peanut paste in good faith from Peanut Corp. It’s also led to a dramatic drop in sales even for manufacturers which have no ties to Peanut Corp. and whose products, we have every reason to believe, are safe.

But there’s the rub these days: reason to believe. Apparently, America’s food protection system is far from adequate, or this latest outbreak of peanut butter salmonella food poisoning never would have happened. The Food and Drug Administration is supposed to stop such things. In this case, and in too many other food poisoning cases, it didn’t.

If you or a loved one has suffered salmonella food poisoning as a result of tainted peanut paste or peanut butter products, alert a peanut butter salmonella food poisoning lawyer or attorney with Jim S. Adler & Associates. Those who are responsible for this heinous outbreak must be held accountable for their negligence in the legal arena.

To ensure this is done, call toll-free to 1-800-505-1414 or submit the free case review form on this webpage. Peanut Corp. may not have heeded warning signs of dire consequences, but an Adler salmonella food poisoning lawyer won’t delay.

I believe I was infected from peanut butter crackers purchased from Sam’s Club. Thinking it was some kind of flu I never saw a doctor. However, I have been having problems since my first attack, stomach problems, loose bowels, night sweats, problems sleeping, nausea, and muscle weakness for nearly 8 months now. My question would be, is it possible to find out if I may still have a residual of salmonella poisoning as I have never felt right from the onset of the first episode.
    Would appreciate any feedback.
    Thanks,
    Barb
