Archive for the 'accident injury' CategoryTRAFFIC NEWS: 54 INJURED IN 50-VEHICLE PORT ARTHUR PILEUPA mix of early morning fog and smoke from marsh wildfires was blamed for poor visibility which led to a pileup of at least 50 vehicles on Texas 73 near Port Arthur Thursday morning. Fifty-four people were injured, four critically, investigators said.
The pileup occurred shortly after 5:30 a.m. Thursday with a number of related accidents on the highway’s eastbound lanes. The location was west of the Taylors Bayou bridge and near the Veolia Processing Plant. |

Archive for the 'accident injury' CategoryTRAFFIC NEWS: MOTORCYCLIST DIES ON HOUSTON’S SOUTH LOOPA motorcyclist has died in a crash on Houston’s Loop 610. The accident occurred sometime before 9 a.m. Wednesday, when the motorcyclist’s body was discovered beneath Highway 225, which crosses the loop just east of its intersection with the Gulf Freeway. Houston Police are investigating. The victim’s identity has not yet been released. Police said the motorcyclist was riding on the South Loop and headed toward the Highway 225 exit when his motorcycle went off a freeway overpass. The motorcyclist was dead at the scene.

Archive for the 'accident injury' CategoryTRAFFIC NEWS: Boy hit by car hospitalizedOctober 31, 2011: A 12-year old Houston boy was hit by a car late Sunday afternoon as he rode through an intersection in the New Territory area of Fort Bend. The driver of the car that struck the young victim was not charged in the incident. A spokesman for the Department of Public Safety said the boy rode through a red light at the intersection of Sandhill and Highway 99 when he was hit by a 2004 Lincoln sedan. The boy was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The Mountaineer rolled over, killing its passenger. The driver of the Trail Blazer was taken to the hospital. Police suspect he may be in the country illegally since he had no driver’s license or insurance. His passenger fled the scene.

A driver in north Harris County has died after his car was struck early Sunday morning in north Harris County by another driver who apparently ran a red light. The victim has been identified as Eduardo Devora. Devora died at Ben Taub Hospital. His car was eastbound on Frick in the 2500 block when a southbound green SUV Veteran’s Memorial Drive slammed into it. The case is under investigation.

Archive for the 'accident injury' CategoryGulf helicopter crashes kill offshore workers in transit each year It turns out working among heavy machinery, toxic elements, fire hazards and high-seas weather isn’t all that makes offshore jobs dangerous. Workers on gas or oil rigs also are killed or injured getting to and from work — not by the freeway, but by helicopter.
A recent study shows that, for 26 years, an average of six helicopters yearly crashed in the Gulf of Mexico while servicing offshore oil or gas rigs or platforms. Most often the cause has been engine failure, but weather and pilot error also contribute — and go hand in hand when a pilot takes off despite bad weather warnings. |
