SAFE KIDS USA, based in Washington, D.C. was founded in 1988 to address what was then a little known problem: More kids under the age of 14 were dying from what people called “accidents” (motor vehicle crashes, fires and other injuries) than from any other cause. Since then, SAFE KIDS has distributed more than 1 million bicycle helmets, 5000,000 child safety seats and 100,000 smoke alarms.
