A litigation lawyer in the Houston office of Jim Adler & Associates, Barrett Beck first knew he wanted to be a plaintiff’s attorney after a family member was injured in an auto accident.
“I like helping others at a time in their lives when they need help the most,” says Barrett, who handles personal injury cases involving 18-wheeler, auto and oil field accidents, as well as product defect injuries and general liability and premises liability, such as drownings or slip and falls.
Born in Dallas and raised in Plano, he knew starting in elementary school that he wanted to become a lawyer.
“Behind math, my favorite class was American history,” Barrett says. “We learned about influential Americans who paved the way for generations to come, including war heroes, politicians, business people and inventors. I noticed that many also were attorneys. This inspired me. I realized that becoming an attorney would allow me to impact the lives of others.”
Barrett later attended Texas Tech University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and graduated summa cum laude, and South Texas College of Law in Houston, where he earned his juris doctor degree.
Having also worked to represent children injured by defective drugs, Barrett is most passionate about two kinds of law: personal injury, “because others should be held accountable when they act negligently and injure people,” and contract law, “because we enter into contracts with other people every day and don’t realize it.”
Barrett is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
