Invokana is used as a treatment for type 2 diabetes patients. It is the brand name of canagliflozin, a medication called a “sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor” that works by triggering the kidneys to excrete excess blood glucose via urine. It is used in combination with diet and exercise. It is not approved for type 1 diabetes treatment.
