WHAT ARE THE DANGERS OF ROUNDUP?

The popular weed killer Roundup contains the active ingredient glyphosate. Experts from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) have warned of the dangers of glyphosate exposure, saying that the herbicide “is probably carcinogenic to humans.”

Monsanto, the manufacturer of Roundup, has faced an onslaught of legal claims from cancer patients alleging the chemical causes non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemia, B-cell lymphoma, and other life-threatening diseases.

Now, a jury has ordered Monsanto to pay $289 million to a cancer victim who claimed his disease was caused by his exposure to the weed killer. The jury determined that Monsanto intentionally kept information about the potential dangers of glyphosate from the public and failed to warn consumers of the risks. (Note: Jim Adler & Associates was not involved in this particular case.)

People may be exposed to glyphosate by inhaling the herbicide while spraying or mixing it. Exposure may also occur from contaminated food or drinking water. Individuals most at risk of exposure include:
