Thomas C. Mayes, Jr.

Thomas Cullee Mayes, Jr. believes that the 7^th Amendment trial by jury is the anchor of the civil justice system. He sees personal injury law as the only real way individuals can hold corporations- especially insurance companies- accountable.

Prior to joining the firm, Thomas worked at a personal injury firm managing a docket of 100 cases and overseeing a team of attorneys. He specialized in premises liability and routinely obtained six-figure settlements in tough slip-and-fall cases. Thomas’s legal practice has also included multi-district litigation and service as a deputy city attorney to six Texas cities.

Thomas was a lobbyist and local government official for ten years. Clients included 60 counties, cities, housing authorities and a university. He successfully advocated for environmental and public health legislative priorities in Austin and Washington and continues this work on a volunteer basis as a board member for a statewide nonprofit. In 2019, Mothers Against Drunk Driving San Antonio honored Thomas as its Community Advocate of the Year.

At SMU Dedman School of Law, Thomas served as an elected representative on the Student Bar Association and as vice president of the Health Law Association. He earned the highest grade in his Wills & Trusts class. In his third year of law school, Thomas opened a political consulting firm.

In twelve years in business, he worked on 35 campaigns in 13 states. He is proudest of his efforts on successful ballot initiatives to raise the minimum wage in Nebraska, reduce corporate power in Arizona elections, and protect the Edwards Aquifer in San Antonio.

Thomas taught for five years at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he held dual appointments in the Institute of Law and Politics and the College of Public Policy.

Thomas lives in downtown San Antonio with his wife and young daughter. He coaches St. Anthony Saints youth sports teams and is an avid marathoner and Pelotoner.
