When You've Been Hurt In A Car Wreck, We Can Help.

Dallas is the most dangerous city for driving.

Dallas is one of the most dangerous cities in the country—and is the most dangerous city in Texas—for driving. About 90% of trips in Dallas are made by car, and with the city’s growth rate exploding, road congestion could be on the rise as well. The City of Dallas has committed to a plan called Vision Zero that aims to eliminate all traffic deaths by 2030. But Dallas has a long way to go: about two people are killed every week on Dallas streets.

While Dallas is changing, the reasons for car accidents stay more or less the same. Aggressive and distracted driving, speed, driving under the influence, and failure to obey traffic laws top the list of accident causes year after year. If you were injured in a crash, the Dallas car accident lawyers at Jim Adler & Associates won’t let you be a victim twice. There are many personal injury attorneys in Texas, but there’s only one Texas Hammer. What Should I Do Right After A Car Accident?

There are several steps to take after a car accident to protect yourself and Texas has laws surrounding this. Let’s take a look at step by step instructions on what to do after a car accident.

  • Ensure that you’re okay and anyone else in the vehicle with you are safe. Also, if possible, check on the other parties involved in the wreck to see if they’re okay. Then, if you’re able to, move as far away from oncoming traffic as quickly as you can. The accident site itself may increase the odds of another accident. Keep yourself safe at all times.
  • Call 911 and request that a police officer come to the scene of the accident.
  • Even if there isn’t a direct emergency after the accident, you should still call the local police department to report the accident.
  • Take pictures of the damages to all vehicles involved.
  • Obtain the insurance information and driver license from all parties involved in the accident.
  • Get the police officer’s information and police report number.
  • Seek immediate medical attention to address and document your injuries.

Dallas Growth Puts Stress on Infrastructure

Lots of people are moving to Texas. Dallas is a main recipient of that growth. Jobs, affordability, low taxes, a thriving cultural scene, and mild winters are major draws to Dallas, which is on pace to gain around 1.4 million residents between 2020 and 2029, according to local movers ATB Moving. That puts Dallas on pace to surpass the size of Chicago in the coming years.

More people means more cars on the road in the Dallas metro area. Dallas residents travel by car 88% of the time. A high car use rate could be part of the reason why Dallas was recently rated the most dangerous city for driving in the United States.

Compared to the national average, you’re about 46% more likely to be involved in a car crash on Dallas streets. Dallas has the nation’s second-highest traffic fatality rate among the 15 largest cities, ahead of Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston, and Austin, and trailing only Jacksonville, Florida. The latest data from the Texas Department of Transportation shows that Dallas had nearly 32,000 total crashes in a single year, including 205 fatal crashes and 959 serious injury crashes.

An influx of new residents is likely to strain the city’s already-stressed infrastructure. Dallas currently needs to spend $212 million more per year to keep street conditions from declining below current levels. Street maintenance projects could address changes in lane markings, street design, lighting, signage, and police traffic enforcement as part of the city’s Vision Zero project. The project aims to achieve, “The ability to travel safely throughout Dallas, without fear of collision or injury.” Specifically, the Dallas City Council has a goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and cutting serious traffic injuries in half by 2030.

Causes of Dallas Car Accidents

A Dallas Department of Transportation data analysis presentation to the city council found that over 60% of fatal and severe injury crashes in Dallas occur on just 8% of the city’s streets. According to the analysis, the top contributing factors in Dallas car accidents include:

  • Speed
  • Driving under the influence
  • Failure to drive in a single lane
  • Failure to yield when turning left

This analysis explains in part why Dallas city streets have twice as many fatalities as Dallas interstates. Infrastructure concerns also help explain the high number of Dallas County work zone crashes. There were more than 2,605 Dallas County work zone crashes in 2020—the highest number in the state.

Road and infrastructure fixes may be able to improve road safety, but it is drivers who bear the biggest share of the blame for traffic accidents. Dallas is known for its fast and often reckless drivers. Over a single month in the summer of 2021, Dallas police issued hundreds of tickets to aggressive drivers, such as those who speed or make improper lane changes.

Distracted driving is another major contributor to Dallas car accidents. Statewide, 1 in 5 crashes involves a distracted driver. Texans have been prohibited from texting while driving since 2017, but despite the new law, rates of texting, taking photos, playing music, and even emailing and using social media behind the wheel have remained virtually unchanged.

While smartphone distractions are a relatively new phenomenon, alcohol-impaired driving is a perennial problem. Dallas County is near the top statewide in terms of DUI-related crashes, averaging around 2,000 per year to go along with dozens of related fatalities and hundreds of injuries. Across Texas, 25% of the people killed in motor vehicle crashes are killed in alcohol crashes.

Important Questions To Ask After A Car Accident

After a car accident, there’s often a lot of confusion as to what you should do. We stated earlier what to do immediately after the accident. What about in the days afterward? If you’re struggling with what you should do in terms of dealing with the insurance company or hiring a car accident attorney, ask yourself these important questions.
  • Did you seek medical care?
If you or a loved one had to seek medical care for your car accident injuries, then we recommend speaking with us as soon as possible. If you were not at fault for the accident and do not have the money to pay for medical care, we can help.
  • Was your vehicle or anyone else’s vehicle damaged?
When car accidents happen, depending on the severity of the crash, it’ll cause some serious damage to your car. Some vehicles become completely totaled from the car crash. Others obtain minor damage, but are damaging to the pocketbook. It’s important that you have a vehicle to transport yourself and your family to school, work, church, and other daily tasks and routines. Thus, if a car accident damages your vehicle or completely totals it, you need to quickly discern the best course of action to repair or replace the vehicle. This is usually not easy for the average person to do unexpectedly. Purchasing another vehicle is expensive. Vehicle repairs cost money. Let us help you receive the full amount owed to you so that you can afford to replace what you’ve lost from the car accident.
  • Were the police called and involved after the car accident?
If the police were called to the scene of your car accident, this can help you tremendously in proving who should be held liable for your insurance claim. The police officers will document everything from the vehicles involved, the location, the scenario that caused the accident and the parties involved. If someone broke the law with something such as driving while intoxicated or driving under the influence of drugs, the police report will show that too. If any traffic violations caused the accident, they will also document that. All of these details will help you on your insurance claim.
  • Were there any insurance or medical costs due to the car accident?
Remember that you’re seeking compensation for medical costs you did not cause. If you had to endure financial losses due to health insurance co-pays or medical bills, you’ll want to show proof of these amounts to support your claim. Don’t let anyone take advantage of you and lose out on what is rightfully yours. Call us today at 1-800-505-1414.

The Texas Law Hammer Won’t Let You Be a Victim Twice

There’s no getting around it: Dallas is one of the most dangerous big cities in the country for driving.

That doesn’t mean accidents are unavoidable. Car accidents happen for many reasons. But the underlying reason, in nearly every case, is drivers acting irresponsibly.

If another driver’s carelessness or recklessness injured you, you’ll have to go through the process of seeking compensation from their insurance company. Insurance companies are notorious for delaying, denying, and underpaying claims. Jim Adler & Associates won’t let the insurance companies get away with mistreating you. We have a 300-member team of Dallas personal injury attorneys and support staff ready to go to work with a single goal in mind: getting you every cent of compensation you deserve.

The insurance company was being extremely difficult and vague with me when I tried to file the car accident claim, downplaying the damage to my vehicle and the injuries to me. I told them to talk to my lawyer! I called Jim Adler and they gave me more insight and help than I thought was possible. They did a great job!
